Dr. Greg Wells Podcast #67: Health and Fitness Legend Paul Check

June, 20th 2017

Welcome back podcast universe! This week I had the chance to chat with one of my greatest influences Paul Chek. Paul is a legend in the health and fitness space and we went really deep in this conversation. We talked about healthy nutrition, fitness and the pillars of living a great life. Here’s a little more about Paul.

Paul is a holistic health practitioner who has transformed the lives of countless individuals by developing practical and effective methods for addressing all aspects of well-being. His approach to treatment and education is driven by his “system of systems” philosophy: that the body is a fully integrated unit of physical, hormonal, emotional and spiritual components.

He is the founder of Corrective Holistic Exercise Kinesiology (C.H.E.K) Institute, which helps healthcare professionals advance their careers through a holistic approach to health, fitness and well-being. He is also the creator of the PPS Success Mastery Program. This self-mastery program teaches individuals to reach their true potential by transforming their destructive habits and learning to take control of their personal, professional and spiritual life.

Dr. Greg Wells Podcast #65: All about Superlearning with Jonathan Levi

May, 30th 2017

This week we dive into the topic of Superlearning. As a professor this is a topic that is hugely important, especially in this golden age of entrepreneurship and artificial intelligence where your ability to learn quickly is becoming more and more important.

You can learn more about Jonathan at https://jle.vi/.

Jonathan Levi is an experienced entrepreneur, angel investor, and lifehacker from Silicon Valley. Since 2014, Jonathan has been one of the top-performing instructors on Udemy, with his course Become a SuperLearner (now retired) earning him over 60,000 students. He has since snowballed this success into the launch of his rapidly growing information products company, SuperHuman Enterprises, which produces such products as the top-rated Becoming SuperHuman Podcast; the bestselling “Become a SuperLearner” print, digital, and audiobooks; and numerous online courses. Most recently, he launched The SuperLearner Academy, a private, online academy where he teaches premium-level masterclasses in accelerated learning and productivity. He is based in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Origin Story:

After successfully selling his Inc 5,000 rated startup in April of 2011, Levi packed up for Israel to gain experience in the Venture Capital industry. While in Israel, Levi enlisted the help of speed-reading expert and university professor Anna Goldentouch and Machine Learning expert Dr. Lev Gold, who tutored him in speed-reading, advanced memorization, and more. Levi saw incredible results while earning his MBA from INSEAD, and was overwhelmed with the amount of interest his classmates expressed in acquiring the same skill set. Since acquiring this superlearning skill, he has become a proficient lifehacker, optimizing and “hacking” such processes as travel, sleep, language learning, and fitness.

Media Recognition

In addition to publishing his own bestselling book, Levi has been featured in such publications and programs as the Wall Street Journal, Inc. Magazine, TEDx, Entrepreneur On Fire, Mixergy, Dream. Think. Do, Nana10 Television, The Silicon Valley Business Journal, The SoloPreneur Hour, The Smart People Podcast, and Upstarts! Dr. Greg Wells Podcast #52: Dr. Daniel Santa Mina on Exercise Medicine

December, 27th 2016

This week I had the great opportunity to chat with my colleague Dr. Daniel Santa Mina. Dan is leading the world in the use of exercise for cancer patients before, during and after treatment.

Dr. Santa Mina is an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto and has built the Wellness & Exercise for Cancer Survivors program (WE-Can) is now available to prostate and breast cancer patients at the Princess Margaret, with the goal to expand to all other cancer types.

“Considering the level of individualization needed for every person, you need everybody in that room.  This ensures we’re able to consider everything to deliver a safe and effective exercise program.”

Dr. Santa Mina and his team have been granted about $3-million in research-related funding in exercise and cancer, much of the activity to occur at WE-Can.  Prostate Cancer Canada, the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation and the University of Guelph-Humber have all contributed.

“A lot’s happened in seven years,” says Dr. Santa Mina, enthusiastically.

“Imagine walking into a cancer centre, and seeing men and women on a treadmill, walking, lifting weights, dancing.  Cancer patients can have a lot of life to live.  We want to optimize that time, and exercise is the best at doing that when it’s a part of other treatments.”

“What we’re doing is changing the system.  We’re changing the face of cancer treatment so that more people can return to a quality of life they enjoyed pre-cancer.”

You can follow him on twitter @dr_santamina.

Dr. Elmi and I had a great conversation about her work as a surgical oncologist with a specialization in breast cancer, and about cancer in general. We talk about optimal treatment techniques, what its like being a surgeon and also about how we can do better in prevention and treatment of cancers.

Here is Dr. Elmi’s bio in her own words:

Having been an athlete my entire life with a strong interested in health and fitness, I pursued a bachelor degree in Kinesiology at the University of York. Subsequently, I received my medical degree from the University of Toronto in 2011, and I am currently completing my residency in General Surgery. Through my experiences in residency, my enthusiasm to pursue a career in breast surgical oncology grew. In terms of academic interests, I completed a Masters in Clinical Epidemiology and Health Services Research at the University of Toronto. Here is more about Stu (in his own words):

Since 1991 Stu has been traveling North America delivering inspirational and hilarious speeches to over two million people in every province, the Yukon, Europe and over 40 US states.

In 2005 Stu was awarded the Canadian Leader of Distinction award recognizing him for his contributions to youth leadership in Canada. In 1999 he was tagged as one of North America’s funniest young comedians.

Stu Saunders is the founder and owner of Youth Leadership Camps Canada (YLCC), a summer camp and leadership training centre. YLCC has worked with over 30,000 youth from more than 25 different countries since 1992.

Stu also runs the largest multi-day youth leadership conference in Canada and is a very proud father of three amazing children.

A Message From Stu

What I believe is fairly simple: I believe that you can change the world.

Each and every day, I believe that we have the power to be the change we want to see. I believe we can make good choices, help others, and make the world we live on a little better each and every day.

And I think we can have a whole lot of fun doing it.

It’s why I created the Youth Leadership Camps Canada program. It’s why I hit the road and talk to thousands of kids a year. It’s why we offer targeted leadership training program, and it’s why we run an annual three-day leadership conference.

It’s because I believe in what you can do.

Leadership comes in many forms. It can be large or it can be small. Some people will move mountains; most will impact smaller change. But everyone out there has the potential to do something positive.

It’s in you. And I, and my team, are committed to giving you the tools, the confidence, and the knowledge to help you do it.

So what do I believe?

I believe in you.

He has spoken at every provincial student leadership province in Canada more than once. He has also participated in over 25 state students’ council conventions and both the US and Canadian National Student Leadership Conference.

Stu is the only Canadian speaker who has been asked to be part of the awarding winning Teen Power book series.

Stu is committed to the youth that he works with. He is straight forward and has no hidden costs or fees.
